Friends of the Valdez Animal Shelter ....a group of volunteers dedicated to providing quality time to animals while they are at the Valdez Shelter and to increasing adoptions. Click on the link to find out more.

Homer, Alaska, Animal Shelter
Peg Price, a volunteer at Homer Animal Shelter in Homer, Alaska, writes: "Our shelter takes very special note of older dogs and cats that come to us. We volunteers often take them home and, even though we are not a no-kill facility, in my four years of volunteering, I've never known of a senior animal being euthanized. We have a very high adoption rate due to the wonderful, dedicated work of Sherry Bess, who is the director of the shelter and the area's animal control officer. I think we're a very unique shelter due to all the caring volunteers. We literally keep animals for months until we find them a home. Sherry herself often takes home animals with special needs and the older ones." As you might guess, since this organization is located in Alaska, they often take in Siberian Huskies who are being retired from racing.
