Pet Lodge Adoptions is a non-profit, no-kill rescue organization. Headed by a vet tech who has been doing animal rescue for 16 years, Pet Lodge is on 14 acres with several large fenced yards. The dogs are kept in groups of 2 to 4; as of June 2001, they are housing 60 dogs, 9 cats, 8 rabbits, 2 large Iguanas and even a rescued gerbil. Adoptions are screened by phone and then by a home visit. All dogs are spayed/neutered before going out. Contracts state that the animal MUST be brought back to Pet Lodge if, at any time in the future the adopter can no longer keep an animal, regardless of the length of time that has elapsed. Second Chance Ranch, Maple Valley, WA (near Seattle). Katie Merwick is the founder of Second Chance Ranch, a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs. This is the Puget Sound's only cage and kennel-free shelter, located on a 5-acre horse ranch (remodeled for dog rescue), including 6,400'sq. heated stables and indoor arena with highly secure fenced pasture. Open to any breed and age, and happen to rescue MANY elderly dogs.
The Progressive Animal Welfare Society is the largest animal advocacy and direct care organization in the Pacific Northwest. Their Companion Animal Shelter has enriched the lives of 100,000 Seattle-area families through adoption of a companion animal. Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue is a non-profit referral organization dedicated to placing unwanted purebred dogs into suitable homes, and preventing unwanted purebreds from overloading the shelter system. Towards attaining those goals, we promote responsible dog ownership by educating the public in the selection, care and training of dogs. Founded as a non-political organization in 1987, SPDR works cooperatively with breeders, animal shelters, breed clubs, and individuals to accomplish SPDR's purpose. SPDR volunteers currently work with over 3500 dogs per year in need of new homes. Please remember that we serve ONLY the Puget Sound Area of Washington State, USA.
